- Applicants must be permanent residents of Tamil Nadu.
- Applicants must be 21 years or more.
- The amount will be transferred only to the Women Heads of Households, under the Magalir Urimai Thogai Scheme.
- Applicants’ family income must be less than 2.5 lakh rupees.
- Applicants’ family land holdings must not go beyond 5 acres and 10 acres of wetland and dryland, respectively.
- The schemes covered several categories such as disabled, elderly, unmarried women and widows.
- Annual household electricity consumption must not go beyond 3600 units.

People who are not eligible for the Magalir Urimai Thogai Scheme are as follows:
- The scheme doesn’t cover women serving in State and Central Government.
- Applicants whose annual family income exceeds more than Rs 2.5 lakh.
- Applicants who work in public sector undertakings, Union and State Governments, local bodies, banks, boards, pensioners and cooperative societies.
- Applicants having four-wheelers.
- Elected representatives including members of Parliament, Legislative Assemblies, heads, and members of local bodies. However, this doesn’t include village panchayat ward members.
- Company owners who pay GST of Rs 50 lakh or more for an annual turnover.
- Families who receive social security benefits like pensions. However, this doesn’t include families that receive maintenance allowance from the Department for the Welfare of differently-abled persons.
